Supporting
Your Immune System
Antioxidant-Rich
Foods-Damage from free radicals can cause
sinusitis in individuals. Antioxidants
can help by protecting mucus membranes. Brightly colored fruits and vegetables
including pumpkins, sweet potatoes, berries and spinach can help support a
healthy immune system.
Ginger–Ginger is an
anti-inflammatory that helps speed healing and reduces swelling and congestion.
It also contains anti-oxidant properties.
Exercise–This improves
circulation, moves fluid in the body, stimulates the immune system, and
increases the production of mucus.
Stress Relief–Stress
contributes to problems with sinuses, because oxidative compounds are created,
which limit some of the body’s regular functions.
Vitamin C-The
American Thoracic Society reports that consuming fresh fruits and vegetables, (especially
those rich in vitamin C) reduces the incidence of lung disease, and that apples and tomatoes in particular seem to help prevent respiratory illness in
general.
