Aging Wellness
Our bodies change as we grow older and our needs for certain nutrients change as well. According to the National Institute of Aging, by the time we reach age 50, many of us may need more of certain vitamins and minerals than younger adults do. This is because many of our body’s systems are changing as we age also.
Circulatory system: Age causes the heart and circulatory system to work less efficiently. Blood, oxygen and nutrients necessary for the body are not pumped as quickly throughout, as they once were.
Digestive system: As we age, our bodies lose precious enzymes necessary to help with the digestive process. Because of this our digestive system may not work as efficiently as it once did. This leads to conditions such as bloating, gas, diarrhea, constipation and general feelings of fullness and discomfort.
Reproduction of skin cells: The loss of collagen as we age, as well as other important nutrients causes hair, skin and nails to regenerate less easily after damage from the environment and toxins from soaps and hair and skincare products.
Boosting of antioxidants to fight against damaging free radicals: This becomes more important as we get older since aging cells need nourishment and protection. Antioxidants work to help the body fight against pollutants from chemicals in our food, air, and water.
