Digestive Support
When we eat, our food must be broken down through the digestion process in order for our body to absorb nutrients. Digestive enzymes, mostly made in the pancreas and small intestine break down foods into nutrient pieces such as amino acids, fatty acids and cholesterol, sugars, vitamins and minerals. Without digestive enzymes, we would eat without getting good nutrition.
What causes poor digestion?
Poor digestion can be caused from a number of issues that result in bloating, gas, constipation, low energy and an overall feeling of unwellness. Many people do not even realize they have digestive issues until their symptoms become severe or a physician diagnoses them.
The most common causes of digestive problems include:
Not enough stomach acid - When there is not enough HCL, (hydrochloric acid) in the stomach bacteria can invade the body compromising the ability for enzymes to break down proteins. This allows food to ferment in the stomach, creating more opportunity for bacteria to grow.
Not enough digestive enzymes - If HCL is low, the pancreas cannot create enough digestive enzymes to properly digest food. Without these, large particles of food may get stuck in the intestines and cause constipation.
Imbalance of flora in the gut - When there is not enough good bacteria in the body, food ferments in the intestines and feeds bad bacteria. When a gut flora imbalance in the body exists, toxins can flow through the body and lead to constipation.
